Job Description

This highly responsible professional administrative position manages and directs the day-to-day operations of the Mandel Recreation Center's fitness center and supports the broader operations of the Town of Palm Beach Recreation Department. The Fitness Supervisor role provides an exciting opportunity for a dedicated individual to join a passionate and collaborative team of recreation professionals in delivering world-class fitness and wellness programs. Situated in a premier location between the beach and intracoastal waterways, the Mandel Recreation Center is part of a diverse recreational portfolio including a superyacht marina, the acclaimed Palm Beach Par 3 golf course, two tennis centers, and Seaview Park. Duties in this position require considerable initiative, independent judgment, and decision-making to ensure excellence in fitness center operations, wellness programming, and customer service, directly supporting the overall mission to enhance community well-being. Work is performed under the general direction of the Director of Recreation
  • Oversee daily operations of the Mandel Recreation Center Fitness Center, including opening and closing the building according to established schedules.
  • Manage fitness center staffing, including hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising fitness attendants.
  • Coordinate and maintain the schedule for contracted fitness instructors, personal trainers, and wellness programming.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive wellness programs and activities, including wellness seminars and health-focused events.
  • Collaborate with local businesses and vendors to enhance wellness offerings and community partnerships.
  • Support overall Mandel Recreation Center operations, assisting with facility management and providing excellent customer service to all patrons.
  • Collaborate closely with the Office Manager to ensure consistent staffing of the front desk, providing exceptional customer service that aligns with the commitment to deliver a world-class experience 
  • Ensure cleanliness, safety, and aesthetic standards of the fitness center and related areas are consistently met.
  • Actively participate in developing and executing marketing strategies to promote fitness center memberships, programs, and special events.
  • Process and manage transactions related to fitness center services, including memberships, training sessions, and merchandise sales.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly reports on fitness center activities
  • Oversee management of fitness equipment, including scheduling routine maintenance and repairs, and recommending additions or deletions from the equipment inventory
  • Respond promptly and professionally to inquiries, concerns, and feedback from members, staff, and the community.
  • Bachelor’s degree in recreation, exercise science, wellness, or a related field preferred and a minimum of three (3) years of experience in fitness center operations or wellness program management, including staff supervision. OR
  • Associate’s degree in recreation, exercise science, wellness, or a related field preferred, and a minimum of seven (7) years of experience in fitness center operations or wellness program management, including staff supervision.
  • Certification in CPR/AED required within 6 months.
  • Valid Florida Class E driver’s license required within 6 months.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver world-class customer service in a fitness or recreational setting.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills.
  • Ability to effectively supervise, mentor, and evaluate staff.
  • Proficiency in coordinating diverse wellness programming tailored to community needs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, fostering positive interactions with residents, guests, and employees.
  • Proven ability to work independently and make sound decisions within established guidelines.
Physical & Environmental Demands or Conditions

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to assess equipment and facility conditions and read detailed documents visually.
  • While performing the essential functions of this job the employee must be able to exert up to 75 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. 
  • Regular standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching are required.

Compensation details: 30.51-48.84 Hourly Wage
