Job Description

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and passionate Grants Writer experienced with affordable housing. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in nonprofit grant writing, excellent research and communication skills, and a deep understanding of housing and community development issues. This role is essential to securing funding from foundations, government agencies, and corporate partners to support and grow our affordable housing programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research, identify, and evaluate potential grant opportunities from public and private sources aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Write compelling and persuasive grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and applications tailored to each funder’s guidelines.
  • Collaborate with program staff to gather data, success stories, budgets, and other information needed to support funding proposals.
  • Maintain and manage a grants calendar to track application deadlines, submission dates, and reporting requirements.
  • Prepare progress reports, impact summaries, and other materials for funders to ensure compliance and demonstrate effectiveness.
  • Cultivate relationships with existing and prospective funders through correspondence, reporting, and occasional meetings.
  • Stay current on trends in affordable housing, homelessness prevention, and housing equity to inform proposal strategy.
  • Support the development team with additional fundraising content, including case statements and donor appeals, as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Public Administration, Urban Planning, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in grant writing, preferably in affordable housing, community development, or social services.
  • Proven success in securing funding from government agencies, foundations, and corporate donors.
  • Strong research, writing, editing, and storytelling skills with an ability to translate complex programs into clear, compelling narratives.
  • Familiarity with housing-related policy, funding streams (e.g., HUD, CDBG, LIHTC), and terminology preferred.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with donor databases (e.g., Salesforce, Boomerang) is a plus.
