Job Description

We’re looking for a sharp, strategic, and proactive Risk Manager to join our Herd. This key role is all about owning and leading our Risk Management Program while partnering with our project teams, leadership, and vendor partners to minimize exposure and protect what we’re building — both physically and culturally.

What You’ll Do:

🛡️ Champion Our Risk Management Program

  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert for risk identification, assessment, and management.
  • Lead the evolution of our Risk Management Program, implementing best practices and innovative tools.
  • Educate and empower our teams through training and proactive communication.

📄 Contract Review & Negotiation

  • Review and assist in negotiation of all Owner contracts in collaboration with Project Teams and our CFO.
  • Evaluate contract terms for new and existing Client Partners and ensure documentation accuracy.
  • Oversee and negotiate subcontractor markups to align with BCI’s standards and expectations.

⚖️ Litigation Support

  • Act as the internal point of contact for all litigation matters.
  • Identify and engage external counsel when needed, and manage case-related communication and documentation.
  • Participate in litigation processes as a representative of Buffalo Construction, Inc.

🚧 Claims & Incident Management

  • Manage claims for General Liability, Workers’ Compensation, Auto, and Builders Risk.
  • Collaborate with our Safety team to support incident investigations and gather documentation.
  • Maintain effective communication with insurance carriers and legal teams.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Detail-oriented and capable of identifying risks others may miss.
  • Experience assessing risk in construction projects valued over $30MM .
  • Proven ability to review and redline Owner and subcontract agreements for risk exposure.
  • Familiarity with risk management platforms and digital tools.
  • Strong understanding of the construction process from pre-con to closeout.
  • Working knowledge of construction bonding .
  • Deep understanding of construction-related insurance lines including: General Liability, Workers’ Compensation, Builders Risk, and Professional Liability

Experience & Education:

  • 7-10 years of experience working directly in Construction Risk Management , with hands-on knowledge in: Bonding, Subcontractor qualification, Construction contracts, and Construction insurance
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred (e.g., Construction Management, Risk Management, Business, or Law).
